    Death Tunnel (2005)

By Phil Davies Brown on July 31, 2006 Reviews

This film had an interesting concept, as it placed five attractive women in a real-life haunted location, but aesthetics aside, it was another run-of-the-mill haunted hospital flick.

Five girls are selected to participate in truth or scare, an initiation ritual which sees each girl placed on one of the five floors of the abandoned hospital. They must stay for five hours. The girls soon start freaking out as they begin to see things.

The film looks good but it has far too many problems which ultimately ruin it and the main one is the script. There isn’t much of a story here and the non-linear structure doesn’t make it any easier to swallow. It would appear that the story takes elements of truth and blends them with conventions of the genre in the hopes that horror fans will be turned on…which they weren’t.

The cast are all attractive but aren’t great actors, and the fact that they have to do idiotic things such as strip nude and shower in a decaying hospital makes them look even less credible.

The plus points as afore mentioned are the aesthetics, it’s technically competent, but all of the creative elements are poorly performed and therefore make it a dull, bland rehash of every haunted house movie we’ve seen in the past decade.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
Another fine example of why style over substance never works. And whilst we are at it, when the characters mention the titular passage all too frequently, why the hell didn’t they attempt to escape through it sooner? Dead or not, that would have been the most logical escape route no?
