Jensen Ackles and Shannyn Sossamon star in this tale of technological terror which sees a group of friends sign up for an online game called The Pathway. At first the game seems like fun as an anonymous caller gives players tasks which they must carry out, such as scaring or getting revenge over someone. The seemingly innocent pranks soon turn darker, and it isn’t long before the group of friends start dying off.
The film opened nicely with an artistic title sequence and a good song to signify the relatively high production value for a DTV flick, and the film was aesthetically pleasing and technically competent throughout.
Where the film got into bother was in it’s story, which saw far too many characters involved in what turned out to be a rather ludicrous plot.
The young cast do good jobs, with Dominique Swain’s portrayal of a good time girl making for most of the highlights, but the moment poor Shannyn Sossamon steps into frame you can’t help but feel the need to point and laugh at her terrible wig.
The kills are all off screen, although there are some bloody aftermaths, and a few nightmare sequences show most of the gore involving snake bites and severed tongues and the like.
OVERALL SUMMARY
In all it’s not a bad little film but the ending is a bit crappy. Perfect for watching on a rainy day.
