    Do Not Disturb (1999)

This dodgy thriller sees a great cast relegated to bit parts as a ten year old mute girl witnesses a murder during a trip to Amsterdam with her family.

Director Dick Maas who previously directed and then remade the Naomi Watts possessed elevator thriller ‘Down’, doesn’t quite manage to make this as much fun as that film, as the comedy element is far too hokey here.

This is possibly the worst role Jennifer Tilly has ever had as she plays a mother who doesn’t curse and wears sensible shoes and reading glasses. It almost put me off her until I watched Bound again. I can’t believe she signed on for this, although maybe she got sick of squeezing into PVC and wearing spiked heels.

Michael Chiklis plays a bumbling idiot, William Hurt turns Bruce Willis in Die Hard for the finale and Denis Leary does a day’s easy labour. This is probably the most miscast film I have ever seen. I mean don’t get me wrong, the actors pull it off but it just makes it even more like an Uwe Boll flick.

There are moments of action, poor taste and unbelievability aplenty but you are never thrilled as there is absolutely no tension or suspense.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
If you’ve seen ‘Mute Witness’ and wondered how it would play if they spoofed it in ‘Scary Movie’, wonder no more.
