Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988)

Cassandra Peterson stars as her alter-ego Elvira, Mistress of the Dark in this self-titled debut about the late night horror queen’s quest to become a Las Vegas Showgirl.

The film is a hilarious exploitative romp which features many familiar faces having a lark with the daft subject material and making the audiences sides split in the process.

Peterson is amazing as the voluptuous siren, thanks to her dead-pan delivery and risqué costumes (love the titty tassels) and set pieces (such as the Flashdance parody set to She’s a Maniac) and is well supported by the entire cast, especially Edie McClurg as town busybody Chastity Pariah.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
The film plays cleverly on old fashioned horror conventions and Peterson’s love of the genre is apparent throughout, making Elvira a campy cult classic that every self respecting horror fan should have in their collection.
