Evil Breed: The Legend of Samhain (2003)

This long awaited horror romp finally makes it to DVD in time for Halloween and despite its extremely well documented production problems (which followed on into post-production and beyond) it is still a really fun film.

The premise which is heavily based on the legend of Sawney Bean, sees a group of American students travel to Ireland to learn about the ancient Druids and Celtic lore. The overacting caretaker soon starts screeching in an ‘oirish’ accent about ‘de dangers of strayin’ from the pat’ as his cousin, played by Ginger Lynn Allen warns them ‘not tae take any notish of Gary’.

Being that this is a slasher movie however; the kids are soon off exploring the woods and each other bodies as they are picked off one by one by deformed cannibals.

The main draw here is the appearances by some of the adult industries top performers including Chasey Lain and Jenna Jameson but they are all sadly relegated to one scene moments, which only serve to make you chuckle that bit more, such as the scene which sees Jameson cut open by a cannibal who then proceeds to chew on her breast implant.

The deaths are quite gory and the film is great fun but it has to be said Christian Viel does a great job of showcasing the beautiful Canadian scenery.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
The film, like it’s victims, is a bit of a mess with what one can only suspect was a tacked on ending as it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but it’s got everything you need for a few belly laughs this Halloween.
