Godsend didn’t exactly set the box office alight earlier this year in its theatrical run Stateside, but I still wanted to see it despite lukewarm reviews.
When Paul and Jessie Duncan lose their 8 year old son Adam to a tragic accident, they are approached by Dr. Richard Wells (Robert De Niro clearly paying the bills or fulfilling a contract obligation) who claims that he can clone their son using his DNA and provide them with an exactly identical child.
In a state of emotional distress and unable to conceive again, the couple decide to take him up on the offer and everything is well until their new son reaches the age at which he died.
Adam begins to see disturbing visions and the parents begin to worry in this Omen-lite version of ‘The Good Son’.
Nick Hamm’s debut movie, ‘The Hole’ was a solid little effort, so it was sad to see him stuck with this material that is quite frankly dull and far too slowly paced.
The film is not even that aesthetically pleasing, and is highly predictable.
A good cast is the only real reason to watch this, but even then you feel embarrassed for them.
OVERALL SUMMARY
In the end Godsend is an okay way to spend a couple of hours, but I doubt that I would be able to sit through it again.
