Adulterous, coke-snorting, all-round bad cop Sheffer stupidly opens that
Lament Configuration box thingy and is basically taken to hell…at least
I think that’s what was going on.
It’s sometimes predictable, but mostly this Scott Derrickson was totally
incoherent, and in its attempt to be different from the previous
‘Hellraiser’ films (not my favourite series, but usually when the
enterprise goes into space, that’s a sure sign the series is d-e-a-d, and
sadly, that was the previous film) it rips off both ‘Seen’ and ‘Bad
Lieutenant’.
Sheffer is willing enough, but this is TOO different from the
previous films and far too unoriginal and the characters, like in the
previous films, are thoroughly repellent.
Furthermore, whoever was responsible for cutting down Pinhead’s role to a
mere cameo, should be skinned alive, like that Frank dude from the first
film. Character actor James Remar turns up as an unconventional shrink and
seems to be the only one here having fun, and that includes the audience.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Ugly, unenjoyable, and incoherent, but there was probably a small portion
of a good idea here, horribly executed. You’ll wanna get cleaned real good
after watching this one.
