The latest De Niro does horror effort is a damn sight better than the truly awful ‘Godsend’ but was not without it’s problems.
The film which sees De Niro’s David Callaway move nine year old daughter Emily (Dakota Fanning) upstate following the death of her mother, suffers mainly because of it’s far too revealing trailer.
Watching the film, I knew when to expect scary moments and who was going to die and how, and also felt a little bit cheated as the film turned out to be quite different from what I had expected.
Granted the trailer is perhaps misleading on purpose in order for the ending to work effectively, and it did, but the ending left some unanswered questions as to the order of events.
The film is quite creepy and has great locations and good performances from a highly likeable cast including sexy Famke Janssen and the beautiful Elisabeth Shue.
Credit must also be given to Director John Polson (Swimfan) who has so far managed to take two potentially cliche ridden scripts and turn them into very good and enjoyable thrillers.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Hide and Seek is definitely worth going to see, but I’m sure many audience members will feel misled and even a bit disappointed by the outcome, which despite my best efforts was quite unpredictable.
