It’s pretty much common knowledge that this franchise has the worst sequels ever committed to film, but I decided to check this one out as I had heard that it followed the plot of the novels closely. If anything, the film ended up being more of a rehash of the first one.
The plot sees successful novelist Marie Adams and husband head to a secluded country cottage after she begins to suffer terrifying hallucinations as the result of a nervous breakdown.
Everyone seems nice at first, although you can tell that the town hides some dark secrets and before long the cat is let out of the bag, or should that be the wolf?
This sequel is so-so but is definitely one of the better efforts in the series, and it benefits from solid make-up effects courtesy of Steve Johnson who has worked on many a horror project.
The whole affair is utterly predictable and a little bit toy as well, and I was surprised at how quickly the film ended, especially when the finale consists of an ex-nun finding a bookmark that allows her to immediately deduce that the townsfolk are werewolves, and that she must ring the church bell to lead them to the tower so she can burn them.
OVERALL SUMMARY
One of the better sequels, but largely down to the melting transformation sequence and the scary big head werewolf make-up.
