    Intruder (1988)

By Phil Davies Brown on October 21, 2003 Reviews

This rare film ‘From the makers of Evil Dead 2’ stars Ted and
surprisingly, Sam Raimi, Renee Estevez and even has appearances from many
of the ‘Evil Dead’ creators and Bruce Campbell.

Jenny is not having a good night. As if having to work nights in an old
supermarket wasn’t bad enough, she also has to deal with the fact that the
store is set to close for good, leaving her jobless. Oh, and did I
mention that her psycho ex-boyfriend is stalking her and her workmates
    too?

This film was not as scary as I was led to believe (it was allegedly
banned in Britain at the height of the video nasties craze) but was much
    fun regardless.

There is no mistaking that this is from the crew behind the ‘Evil Dead’
series as it was choc-full of the expected signature conventions present
    in those films.

We get wacky moving camera shots, blood bulbs, weird sound effects,
copious amounts of gore and a character named Linda, not to mention a
cameo from the famous Raimi mobile (luckily for me my VHS came with an
optional commentary from my friend James who sat with his Necronomicon
‘The Brucie Bible’ and told me all sorts of facts, most I knew some I
didn’t) thrown in for good measure, not to mention some of the most over
the top gory humour ever commited to celluloid.

The actors could be conceived as pathetic if you didn’t get the humour,
but luckily for me I did, so they were bang on. Needless to say it’s all
about crazy camerawork and great effects as even the motive is silly,
although it does provide a good few jumps and some creepy atmosphere in
    the process.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
In the end this is a great popcorn movie and has the ‘Evil Dead’ stamp of
approval on it, so if you’re a deadite you’re sure to enjoy this (I know
    James did).
