The fourth and so far final film in the Prom Night series is quite good but is not without it’s problems.
When two couples decide to have their own private party at one of the groups family’s summer homes instead of attending their prom, they are stalked by a psycho priest who wants to punish them for their sins, which by now you will have guessed include drinking and screwing.
The film starts quite well but gets bogged down by taking too long to explain why father Jonas is a psycho, although this does allow for a hilarious scene which sees the actor playing Jonas in a wig and beard that make him look like a cross between Charles Manson and Jesus.
When the kids finally get to the summer house, which coincidentally used to be an old monastery (that’s why Jonas heads there) things pick up a little and there are a few nice touches, but all of the scares are blatanly obvious.
The cast including a young Nicole de Boer and Fab Filippo are all very good with Joy Tanner providing another likeable character in the shape of Laura, but there isn’t an awful lot for the kids to do.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Prom Night IV managed to provide the series with a totally different storyline whilst retaining the look and feel of the earlier films. This has enough nice little nods to the Prom Night timeline and moments of suspense to ensure that fans of the series will enjoy this.
