    Red Christmas (Short) (2016)

The Christmas holidays have always given the horror genre that perfect juxtaposition for a welcome blend of sentiment and insanity. And in writer/director Doug Hawley’s latest short offering ‘Red Christmas’ we are thrown into a world where that fine balance of horror and seasonal unhappiness meet once more.

Tyler (played by Nathan Pinsoneault) is great as the truly discontented office drone Tyler who has plenty of frustrating anxieties to deal with this holiday season. Aside from the typical stresses of his day job and putting up with his bullyish boss he also has to contend with the fact that his roommate has become a zombie.

Instead of killing him however Tyler has other plans for the new walking dead pal which in theory would certainly go some way in rectifying his work issues. After luring his boss to his home to feed her to his undead cohabitant things get a little out of hand when his newly turned employer tries some one-armed retribution.

‘Red Christmas’ is a well conceived little project which peppers in various festive elements against the backdrop of an impending zombie apocalypse. It’s certainly a story that with a little further work could be extrapolated to some extent and has the potential for feature length adaptation but whether or not that’s what director Hawley would be up for is another question. But we would definitely welcome the idea.
