Despite really poor reviews and my very low expectations, this third Scarecrow flick really surprised me and ended up being a film that could be one of your guilty pleasures.
The plot sees a bunch of jocks drag some pledges out to a cornfield for hazing pranks only to leave one of them, Sam, unconscious and tied to the scarecrow after a scuffle. What the jocks don’t know is that Sam has slipped into a diabetic coma and the scarecrow becomes connected to him exacting his bloody revenge.
The film looks good as does the scarecrow, and I have to say that despite the cliched set up the film has a few nice little twists and turns that make it that little bit more unique.
The attractive cast do well considering that the majority of the characters are there to die, and there’s even an appearance by wrestler Ken Shamrock as the coach.
Nice little lighting and camera tricks keep you on your toes, and there’s also quite a surprising climax which is inspired by ‘End of Days’.
If you’ve seen either of the previous films you know what to expect, but it’s definitely an improvement over the second part.
OVERALL SUMMARY
I found this quite reminiscent of films like ‘Demon House’ as it’s one of those little fright flicks you can have fun with. It’s got all the right ingredients for a good horror cocktail and it’s even got some good gags too, especially the coda to the cringeworthy scene where one of the jocks sings a heartfelt ballad, only to discover that the scarecrow is not a fan.
