    Shutter (2004)

By Phil Davies Brown on February 10, 2008 Reviews

This eerie Thai horror film revolves around photographer Tun and girlfriend Jane who begin noticing ghostly images in their photographs after a road traffic accident. When Tun’s friends start dying, it becomes apparent that there is more going on than meets the eye and Jane sets about uncovering the truth behind the mysterious deaths to save the man she loves.

The film opens well and managed to hold my attention throughout thanks to an engaging story which unfolds at an even pace. There are the usual long dark hair scares to be found here but these are backed up by some genuinely creepy imagery and even a few red herrings, one of which actually made me laugh out loud.

Ananda Everingham and Natthaweeranuch Thongmee do great jobs here as Tun and Jane and both create very sympathetic characters, as does the lead villain Natre played by Achita Sikamana. The film looks good, utilizes some clever special effects and has some really creepy set pieces to look forward to also.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
Shutter deserves its place next to The Ring and The Grudge in the Asian hall of horror fame and as the least known of the three, I sincerely hope the upcoming remake peaks some interest in this.
