    Silent Night (2012)

By Phil Davies Brown on November 13, 2013 Reviews

It’s Christmas Eve and a psychopath is on the loose in Cryer, Wisconsin. He’s dressed as Santa and he’s come to punish those who’ve been naughty. You better watch out!

Malcolm McDowell and Jaime King star in this loose remake of the controversial 1984 slasher film ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ from helmer Steven C. Miller and for the most part it’s an enjoyable slay ride.

I was really looking forward to this and hoping and praying it wouldn’t turn out like the shoddy Black Christmas remake. Whilst it’s not perfect (very few films if any are), it’s at least a little darker tonally than the aforementioned film which suited me well.

The production values are great, the ensemble cast is really strong (considering this is a low budget slasher film), the cinematography is fantastic and the death scenes are bloody brilliant!

Where the film falters is in its pacing. The story kind of meanders in between deaths which made it seem a lot longer than it actually was.

Fans of the original will love the references to the 1984 version and fans of slasher/whodunit? movies will enjoy guessing who is behind the mask.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
If you’ve seen and enjoyed the previous SNDN series and other X-mas horror movies then you should appreciate this for what it is.
