Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 might possibly be the best ‘so bad it’s good’ film of all time.
Picking up where the first film left off, Ricky Caldwell, the younger brother of Billy (the Santa Claus killer from the first movie) is now in an insane asylum. As his Doctor quizzes him on the series of events which have led to him being resident there, we are treated to flashbacks from his childhood (a.k.a all the best bits of the first film).
Eric Freeman who plays Ricky in this film is hilarious. His thick eyebrows convey lots of emotion as he chews scenery left, right and centre and his one-liners have to be heard to be believed with my personal favourites being “F*** off, Doc” and “Garbage Day”.
Everyone who has seen this film knows it’s corny, but that’s also why they love it. Anyone who hasn’t had the (dis)pleasure of seeing this yet need only type the movie’s title into YouTube for all manner of fan videos and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
OVERALL SUMMARY
The film itself is a mixed bag with a few nice ideas which are poorly executed, but the finale makes up for the original film’s cop-out conclusion in a big way.
