    Sorority Row (2009)

This remake of the 1983 film The House on Sorority Row stars Briana Evigan, Rumer Willis, Leah Pipes, Margo Harshman and Jamie Chung as a group of sorority sisters who play a deadly prank on a frat brother. When the prank results in the death of their sister, Megan (Audrina Partridge), the girls decide to cover up her death for fear of ruining the lives of everyone involved. One year later however on graduation day, the girls begin receiving mysterious text messages and it soon becomes apparent that someone knows what they did and wants revenge for Megan.

I was really looking forward to this particular remake and it didn’t disappoint. The cast all do really well at playing grade A bitches but are also allowed the opportunity to show us their softer sides thanks to the darkly comic and well crafted script from writer Josh Stolberg. Screen legend Carrie Fisher also entertains as the girls’ grouchy house mother with her one liners and gung ho attitude.

Director Stewart Hendler (whose previous genre effort, Whisper was also very enjoyable) does a great job here with many well shot, suspenseful set-pieces and seemed to really let his girls run with the material, which makes for an enjoyable experience. Not since Scream has there been such a frighteningly fun fright flick. The audience were laughing out loud at the catty one-liners one minute and shrieking in terror the next.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
Sorority Row is a surprising thrill ride that will catch many people off guard. None of the sisters are safe, everyone’s a suspect and audiences will have a great time trying to guess who the robe-clad, tire-iron wielding killer is. It’s Scream meets Mean Girls with a touch of I Know What You Did Last Summer and it’s the best teen slasher since the late 90s heyday.
