I can’t say that I was looking forward to watching this as I’m beginning to tire of these serial killer thrillers now, but thankfully this one was presented very differently.
Detailing the exploits of Nebraska teen Charles Starkweather and his 13 year old girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate, the film deals with the teen duos murderous rampage, and Starkweather’s desire to be recognised and idolised.
The film was competently handled by Byron Werner, and thankfully his talents as a Cinematographer shone through in his direction.
Brent Taylor and Shannon Lucio were good as the murderous lovebirds and Lance Henriksen added a whole lot to the production by merely voicing one of the characters.
The film was not as explicit and sickeningly violent as all previous efforts by writer Stephen Johnston, but I for one liked that about it.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Unfortunately for the film, it has been released after a series of more high profile efforts and therefore it does not stand out as much as it may have a few years back. Starkweather is watchable and fans of serial killer stories will most likely enjoy it, but it was a little slow, and didn’t leave a strong enough lasting impression.
