Terry O’Quinn returns to terrorise another family in this sequel from Director Jeff Burr, only this time the potential victims are a little more suspicious of his intentions.
Having survived a knife right through his heart at the end of the first film, Jerry Blake returns under the guise of Dr. Gene, a relationship counsellor, and he soon sets his sights on recently divorced Carol Grayland and her son Todd.
The film looks amazing, thanks to the direction of Jeff Burr who always provides enjoyable genre efforts no matter what challenges may come his way.
Caroline Williams takes the cliched suspicious best friend role here, and manages to make it rather refreshing as she always does thanks to her natural talent, and Miriam Byrd-Nethery is hilarious in her small role of Sally Jenkins.
Little Jonathan Brandis is likeable but the character of Carol comes across as a little bit pathetic, despite Meg Foster’s best efforts.
For me personally, the sequel is more enjoyable than the first film due to the genre talent on offer but I am aware that this film is not that highly regarded by fans of the series.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Not an amazing film but worth a watch for the performance of Caroline Williams alone, Stepfather 2 looks much better than it’s predecessor, but the main flaw is the predictable and cliche ridden script.
