This sequel went straight to DVD in the UK which was a shame as it’s one of the best horror films I’ve seen in quite some time.
Picking up where the original left off, the titular baddie still has Arkin locked in a box – but he also has his sights set on a new victim, a young woman named Elena. During an awesome set-piece at an exclusive party, Elena sets Arkin free but is captured. Arkin is then forced into helping an elite team free Elena from the confines of a booby trapped warehouse.
I really enjoyed this. It was much slicker than its predecessor, ultimately serving as a perfect example of how to write a screenplay. There’s no fat on these bones – Dunstan & Melton have now perfected their craft (slaving away on Saw sequels) ensuring that the audience are taken on a lightening quick thrill ride.
The scene is set, the characters are introduced and we get on with the story. There’s no mucking around and the film doesn’t outstay its welcome.
I liked the cast, the story, the setting, the set pieces, the soundtrack – I loved every minute of it. I was only sad that it was over so quickly.
OVERALL SUMMARY
This film seems to have divided fan opinion (they either love it or hate it) but I loved it! It was easily better than half of the saw sequels for starters.
