The Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting (2003)

By Phil Davies Brown on January 18, 2004 Reviews

This sequel comes 15 years after the original and sees Jim Halsey attempt to overcome his fears by re-taking THAT road trip with his girlfriend
    Maggie.

Maggie soon picks up a hitch-hiker much to the annoyance of Jim and guess what…he’s a little bit psycho. (yeah, like someone could be that
    unlucky!)

Why, why, why, why, why? This absolute turd of a sequel is basically a remake of the original film, obviously inspired by ‘Halloween H20’ & ‘The
Rage: Carrie 2’ which sees the remaining characters return to tie up loose
ends and then move the story forward for potential profit.

Well guess what…..It’s completely redundant!! Obviously, the film
makers didn’t expect the target teeny boppers to have seen the original,
as the main protagonist is instantly recognisable, which completely ruins
    the opening sequence.

Then, poor C. Thomas Howell wastes his talents in a Kari Wuhrer showcase, as she re-creates every good scene from the original.

Yes the cast are good, the film is easy on the eye and the technical
aspects are all very well handled, but that just isn’t enough to make up
    for the lame storyline.

The story is a muddled pile of dog poo!! Is the new hitcher the
reincarnation of the original, (this is seriously hinted at as a
possibility) is he perhaps his son, or has he studied Jim’s story and
thought he would get him back for dissing a fellow hitcher? I don’t know,
    we are never told!!

I love that we don’t really know why Norman Bates killed people or why Michael Myers was after Laurie in ‘Halloween’ or who the killer was in
‘Black Christmas’ or even that we knew nothing about Rutger Hauer’s
original Hitcher, but i’m afraid this just can’t carry it off.

I suspect that the cast were tricked into signing up for this!!

Had they given this a different title and cut out the connections to the original, people would have noted the similarities to ‘The Hitcher’ but
would have been kinder to it. As they have abused the original to make a
profit, fans will not look kindly on it!!

    OVERALL SUMMARY
    Lame!!
