    The Locals (2003)

After his girlfriend dumps him, Grant’s best mate Paul takes him away for the weekend hoping to catch some waves and meet some ‘chicks’. The two are in high spirits when they meet a couple of girls on their way to a party. The girls tell the boys that they are welcome to join them….if they can keep up. As you would expect, the guys end up driving into a ditch and find themselves lost in the middle of the countryside.

The two friends decide to go to a nearby farmhouse for help only to witness an unspeakable crime. The boys are spotted at the scene and are soon being hunted by the creepy locals.

I had first heard about this movie last year and had been eager to see it as it had received much critical praise, thankfully it lived up to the hype.

The film which was shot in New Zealand looks stunning, especially the night time scenes. The main cast are all very likeable and the locals are very creepy. What I liked most about the film was the fact that, what started out like another teen horror movie took a very brave and different direction and ended up being really refreshing.

Also working in the film’s favour is its sense of humour which works to great effect, and there are a few nice little in jokes on hand also.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
A really fun horror movie that has plenty laughs plenty chills and plenty gore has already achieved something of a cult status down under and at film festivals, which will hopefully grow as it is released across the globe.
