Josh Holloway stars in this devilish thriller from the makers of White Noise and it’s gripping stuff!
Recently released from prison and down on his luck, Max Truemont and his fiancé Roxanne attempt to start a new life for themselves by re-opening a popular diner. When all attempts at securing the proper finances turn sour, his friend Sydney (Michael Rooker) talks Max into pulling off one last job. The plan is simple, they will kidnap an 8-year-old boy and hold him to Ransom. Max reluctantly agrees and the plan seems to be going well until David begins to show signs that he isn’t as innocent as he seems and the kidnappers start to turn on one another.
Finally available on DVD after sitting on the shelf for years and bypassing a planned theatrical release, Whisper is a solid supernatural thriller that benefits from a great cast, gorgeous locations, excellent photography and amazing aerial work.
The concept essentially fuses The Omen with Ransom to great effect, as little David may or may not be the spawn of the devil or a similar evil being. This leads to Final Destination style death set pieces and plenty black devil dog attacks to keep horror fans happy. The film isn’t especially gory but it’s a little tense in places and is certainly chilling.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Whisper is a great thriller with a likeable cast and was far more entertaining than many theatrically released films so the least you can do is rent this. Mind you, you can buy it for double the price of a rental so you may as well go and do that. You shouldn’t be too disappointed unless all your after is guts and gore.
