Many of you might wonder why I am including a review of Director Mark Romanek’s debut feature film on a site dedicated to the horror genre, but let me explain.
Robin Williams gave the second of his serious psycho performances in this unsettling psychological thriller.
Sy (the photo guy) Parrish, is a lonely man who longs for the perfect family. What transpires as he attempts to achieve his dream, is an all too familiar nightmare that is ever increasingly becoming a reality in today’s society.
One Hour Photo, deals with the horrors of sexual abuse, obsession and the darker side of the human psyche, whilst simultaneously making it’s audience emote sympathy for the sad and lonely Sy.
The film’s aesthetic aspects such as it’s bleak look and design aspects such as the supermarket where everything is perfectly presented in neat little rows, looks completely creepy and only serves to freak you out more.
The performances are wonderfully real and Robin Williams blew me away!! He even managed to top his performance in ‘Insomnia’. Another strong point I must mention, is the excellent score which only serves to enhance the already emotive images.
OVERALL SUMMARY
If you really think about the news stories you’ve heard about cases like this, and allow yourself to become susceptible to it, this amazing film has the capabilities to get under your skin and haunt you for days!!
