Jeff Betancourt directs and edits this sequel to the 2005 crapfest with which it shares its name and thankfully, this is far superior to the original CGI heavy supernatural horror flick.
The film follows Henry and Laura, siblings who witness the murder of their parents by a dark figure. Ten years later, Henry has successfully been rehabilitated and Laura decides to check into the same psychiatric unit in the hope that she too can rebuild her life. Not long after Laura arrives and begins to settle in, the patients start dying one by one and their deaths are the result of their phobias.
Whilst Boogeyman 2 doesn’t really add anything new to the genre overall, it is a very enjoyable and well crafted spook film which features some awesome death sequences and buckets of gore (not to mention a steamy sex scene and some nudity too). The cast are all familiar and do great jobs and I’m pleased to say that the screenplay isn’t exactly straightforward either, ensuring that you’ll be trying to guess who or what the titular baddie is right up until the very end.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Boogeyman 2 is a better than average horror film that far surpasses its predecessor as well as many other recent straight to DVD horror films.
