Richard A. Clark, writer/director/producer of the indie horror film GRINDER, gave Fango the news that he has cast the HALLOWEEN remake’s Sid Haig and Danielle Harris in the movie. “Sid is coming aboard to play Sheriff Eddie,” Clark tells Fango, “and I don’t think another actor in this world could have made me more excited. He is this genre.” Over at his official website, Haig says of the project, “GRINDER has got all the earmarks of classic horror. It has sadistic mayhem, ultimate fear, anxiety building through the story. It’s just plain fun.”
As for Haig’s HALLOWEEN co-star, “Miss Harris has been a recurring face in the genre for many years,” Clark says, “and I am privileged to have her come in and play the role of Megan for me.” Also newly signed on to GRINDER are “Nikki Griffin, Bo [QUENCH] Barret and Kris [GINGER SNAPS] Lemche, great young talents that we are very lucky to have. Obviously, they bring great faces to the screen, but a lot of people will be surprised at their acting chops. We’re trying to hammer out schedules right now that would make it possible to have Bill Moseley come in and play Willie Chapman. It would mean a lot to me if we could land the legend. He loved the script.”
GRINDER is about a group of college students on Thanksgiving break whose car breaks down in the Smokey Mountains. Stranded in the town of Chapman, they soon learn that the village’s namesake family comprises its entire population, and has murderous designs on their new guests. While that description suggests that the movie follows in the sadistic footsteps of many recent shockers, Clark insists, “Let me say now that it’s not torture porn! GRINDER is a character study. This movie will not make the world worse; it simply diagnoses why it’s so screwed up to begin with.
