GODZILLA INVADING U.S SOIL
Ain’t It Cool News reports on latest Godzilla news…
‘Heya, Father Geek, Scorpio here. Not spy news or hidden camera hijinks, just a summary from the past few weeks of recent developments in the world of the ‘REAL’ Godzilla and his projected invasion of the USA….
Everyone, get out your calendars: two new Godzilla movies will hit the States in the next few weeks, and over the next few months. The folks at Sony have finally signed their deal with Toho to bring GODZILLA VS. MEGAGUIRUS (aka GxM) and GODZILLAMOTHRAKING GHIDORAH (aka GMK) to theaters and television in the US. Both are far superior to GODZILLA 2000, and worth the effort to catch. Consider G2000 an appetizer to clear the palette from Tri-Star’s GINO (Godzilla In Name Only), and to prepare you for two very different, well executed Godzilla films that celebrate the old and the new. Here’s a breakdown of how you can see it:
* American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA – Sunday, August 10 at 5:00pm U.S. Premiere of GODZILLA VS. MEGAGUIRUS
* American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, CA – Friday, August 22 at 7:00pm U.S. Premiere of GODZILLAMOTHRAKING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK
These will be shown in Japanese with English subs.
* Sci-Fi Channel – Sunday, August 31. SFC will have a big Godzilla day beginning with Mothra movies at 9am, and premiering GxM at 3pm, followed by GMK at 5pm, and some old school G vs Megalon and G vs MechaGodzilla starting at 11pm. These will be English dubs.
* Parkway Theater in Oakland, CA – Thursday, October 23 at 7:00pm – Bay Area Premiere of GODZILLAMOTHRAKING GHIDORAH, courtesy of Will ‘The Thrill’ Viharo’s ongoing Thrillville shows (http://www.thrillville.net/).
More theatrical screenings are a certainty at festivals and so on, and a limited theatrical release is even possible. DVD releases are rumored, but nothing set in stone yet. Show your support at these screenings, and maybe we’ll get them in time for Christmas!
Finally, images are starting to show up online for the next big Godzilla film, GODZILLAMOTHRAMECHAGODZILLA: TOKYO S.O.S, due in Japan this December at this location, and a glimpse of the new Mothra at can be seen right here.
Things are really shaping up for next year’s 50th Anniversary of the King of the Monsters!
That’s all, hope you’re well! Oh, yeah, ‘man in suit!’
