2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams (2008)

Finally, the sequel is here and in my hands. I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long, long time. I was a huge fan of the first movie 2001 Maniacs, and couldn‘t wait for this one.. I thought it was funny, and creative. It was a movie I could just sit and watch and not have to worry too much about the who done its. I wish I would have read about the filming location earlier though. Not much happens here in Iowa, but, I would have been down there stalking Tim Sullivan for a part as an extra in the movie. Got myself some ice cold beer and I’m ready for some good times!

Mayor Buckman (Bill Moseley) of Pleasant Valley takes his crew up north after a less than cooperative sheriff refuses to keep sending unsuspecting victims to their death. That doesn’t go over too well to say the least. ROAD TRIP!! If the North isn’t coming to them, they’re coming to us. Thank goodness they didn’t go too far North. I’m a sucker for southern cooking, and of course that sweat tea flavored vodka they got down there that I can’t get enough of. Our friends from the South aren’t the only ones on a road trip. Road Rascals is a reality show that catches some transportation problems on the way to filming some new episodes.

It doesn’t take more than a min after meeting the crew of the Road Rascals that I start rooting for the southern maniacs. Lucky for us it doesn’t take long before they cross paths. When the morning comes there is already a jamboree in session, and you’re all invited for dinner. Problem is… you’re the dinner. But, not before we see the blood, boobs, and ass. Not in any particular order either.

Field of Screams is not a movie for everyone. But, if you’re a fan of the comedy-horror genre I think you’ll get a kick out of this for sure. I really liked the first movie a little better. I think its because of Robert Englund and Giuseppe Andrews stealing that one. Bill Moseley is beyond awesome though. I will watch him till the day he quits making movies. Another interesting actor that most of us have seen before but probably didn’t know it. Crow (Ahmed Best) , better known for his role as Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars series. I couldn’t recognize him either without his floppy ears and tripping over everything. Good news though, he isn’t as annoying in this movie as he is in the Star Wars movies. It was also nice to see Lin Shaye (Granny) reprise her role. That lady is friggin’ hilarious. I got a huge kick out of seeing her bust out the dance moves. She was great in the first movie, and even better in this one. That is one grandma that I could do without pinching my cheeks.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams is exactly what I was looking for. Funny, bloody, and had me rooting for the bad guys. I surely wouldn’t pass up on it if you’re down on Mr. Englund not reprising his role. Bill Moseley is a great replacement for the Mayor. Filled with enough crude one liners to fill a body bag, you won’t be disappointed. Plenty of carpet munching, goat humping, and cannibalistic hillbilly homo references to fill a coffin. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have. Hopefully next time we can see Pleasant Valley Jamboree hit it rich and move to Beverly Hills. I want to see the Beverly Hellbillys!!
