Hard Gore have uncovered something of a hidden gem with this low budget tale of two drug dealers turned vamps, caught in the middle of an ongoing battle between angels and demons.
Judging by the quality of the film, I thought this was a recent production, but to my surprise this was filmed in 1997. Considering that it’s now 8 years old it looks great, and the lengths these guys went to to make something worthwhile are certainly appreciated.
Basically, this was a two man project and Brian Paulin and Rich George of Morbid Vision Films should be proud of their accomplishments, as they went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that they delivered something a little bit different.
Instead of running about the woods with a camera, they designed some sweet effects, crashed cars, blew things up, built models and even built an entire set outdoors to create the illusion that they crashed through someone’s house.
The guys do really well in action mode, and even do decent acting jobs to boot, but their weaknesses are apparent in the script which becomes a little repetitive towards the end.
More work on the softer side of film production would have benefitted the production greatly, but this is a hard as nails horror flick for the dudes!! Even the chicks (who are easy on the eye) are rough in this. It has it’s flaws like any other work, and the story drags a little, but it’s certainly action packed.
OVERALL SUMMARY
This really surprised me and these guys get a 5 for effort alone. I’m surprised that we haven’t heard more about them, as Tom Savini’s a fan, and I myself will be keeping my eyes peeled for more of their work. If your local boozer has sawdust on the floor and you remove beer bottle tops with your teeth, you’ll dig this.
