Backwoods, which premiered on Sky One on Friday the 15th of February, sees a team of computer experts head into the mountains for a team-building weekend. The group splits into two teams for a game of paintball but soon find themselves under attack from the members of a crazed religious cult who mistake them for FBI.
The film begins well (if not a little clichéd) with the obligatory opening death scenario playing out before we meet our main protagonists. The cast is comprised of some really likeable actors such as Ryan Merriman and Danny Nucci and for the most part they do good jobs, even if at least half of them don’t have much to do.
In terms of gore the film was a little dry for the most part but there were a couple of gory moments later on.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Backwoods offers nothing new at all for horror fans, as it is essentially a re-hash of every inbred cannibal religious cult horror ever released, what it does offer is a likeable cast and some gore. Not bad for a Friday night TV premiere but I wouldn’t necessarily rent it or buy it.
