    Bikini Girls on Ice (2009)

One thing is for sure; Bikini Girls On Ice certainly does what it says on the tin. You don’t pick a film like this off the shelf expecting to see Citizen Kane. Its been a good decade since we’ve seen the tried and tested formula of getting girls in as little clothes as possible and killing them off. There’s nothing creepy about it, nothing psychological, its just good old fashion slasher fun. The film marks the debut of writer-director Geoff Klein, and is an old school slasher flick that harks back to the genre films of yesteryear, when girls didn’t need clothes and killers were simply psychotic.

The acting ranges from competent to bearable, though for the most part doesn’t grate on the nerves, and you wont find yourself getting too annoyed waiting for these characters to die. There is a distinct lack of suspense, and for the most part a lack of anything that could constitute as gore, save a few blood splatters on the wall as a result of murders taking place off screen.

Klein’s directing, although not particularly engaging, is professional enough, and does a good job in helping the film run along at a decent pace, making the hour and twenty minute running time pass by commendably well. The film is clearly low budget, but this in no way hinders the production values. Its good to see a slice of low budget horror that’s entertainment value isn’t held back by its lack of resources.

The film’s greatest failing is that it doesn’t live up to the level of violence and gore that would very much be expected from a modern audience that has grown accustomed to the likes of Hostel and the Saw franchise. I’m not expecting more torture porn, but actually being able to see some of the film’s murder scenes would go a long way toward making Bikini Girls On Ice a much more entertaining flick.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
Bad script, bad performances, but isn’t that what we like best about this genre? Though it would have benefitted from a more fierce edge, Bikini girls On Ice still makes for satisfying slasher fun in an almost pleasingly old fashioned style.
