Mike Figgis goes commercial with Sharon Stone in tow for this mis-marketed thriller masquerading as a haunted house film, and whilst it is not as bad as the critics claimed, it is nothing special either.
After the worst day of her life, Leah tilsen (Stone) decides that she has to escape from the trappings of City life and decides to move her family
out to the titular house.
In need of a good spring clean, the family set about gutting the house and that’s when Stephen Dorff turns up to complicate things for the Tilsens.
The film moves at a slow pace but is never lagging or stale. All of the required cliches are present and correct but so what, nice to see a back
to basics approach.
The cast are all capable but don’t have much to do (it was a shame to see Juliette Lewis ‘paying the bills’ as Ruby) but again it aint no biggy.
OVERALL SUMMARY
You could do far worse on a wet January afternoon than watch this.
