    Death Screams (1982)

This 80s slasher flick sees a group of “kids” who are about to leave home for college (even though they all look around thirty) head to a town carnival, then on to a river to party and skinny-dip, followed by a graveyard to tell spooky stories and finally when it rains, to a house in search of shelter. The whole time a maniac is in pursuit.

This unknown stalk and slash effort showed some promise, however a major problem is the fact that it has been edited together in the wrong order. Despite this huge error, the film’s better moments shine through.

The characters are all familiar stereotypes: slut, jock, jerk, stud, comedian, bookworm, nerd and so on but it’s all part of the charm. The deaths are quite graphic and work courtesy of solid prosthetic effects work, the killer lurks in the shadows and there are lots of typical jumpy bits such as a cat leaping out on one character, but the film looks good (if not a little grainy) and has a big score (which is a bit too overdramatic in some places) to go with it.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
Featuring quite bloody deaths, full frontal female and even (gasp) male nudity, Death Screams is bloody good fun. Many of you may never have heard of it and despite the terrible editing error (which is a distributor problem, not the actual editor’s fault) at £3.99 you can’t go wrong.
