British comedian Lee Evans is surprisingly good in his first serious role, as a man wrongly accused of murder, who has subsequently become obsessed with filming his every action 24/7.
The film boasts an excellent score and wonderfully dark visual style, but it unfortunately suffered from some bad acting and a never ending conclusion that had you wishing it would hurry up and end.
I was actually surprised to learn that this was director John Simpson’s first feature as it was technically sound. The cast who will all be familiar to viewers were good for the most part, but some of them had a tendency to ham it up a bit, although Lee Evans and Colin Salmon played well against each other, providing the film with some really funny dark humour.
OVERALL SUMMARY
A very interesting premise and a very different type of role for Evans. Freeze Frame makes for a relatively intriguing watch, and if it hadn’t been for the uncomfortably long ending it would have scored higher with me.
