When 4 middle aged friends go to a remote cabin for the weekend and pick
up a hitch-hiker on the way, we can safely say that they’re headed for
trouble.
For a film that rips off both ‘Halloween’ and ‘Scream’ in the first 5
minutes, this was actually not that bad!
The film which I assumed would be a piece of B-movie trash, chose instead
to reference the likes of ‘Nosferatu’ and ‘Night of the Living Dead’ which
helped it to stand out from the crowd of imitators.
The cast were a little bit false most of the time and the effects were
amateur but this was a low budget effort so these points can be forgiven.
Quite competently directed, there weren’t many faults in terms of the boom
mike in the shot etc, but there were editing flaws, although most people
wouldn’t notice them.
In the end, Grim Weekend is a slightly off kilter, better than average
little slasher effort, that did pay-off in the end.
OVERALL SUMMARY
A little slow in places and unevenly paced. The crew get marks for
attempting to do something different.
