The sequel to Takashi Shimizu’s Japanese chiller hits UK stores ahead of the theatrical release of the remake, and after viewing it I can confidently say that the remake is going to be far superior.
The plot sees a film crew head to the cursed house to film a documentary about the ghostly goings on, only to fall foul of Kayako and Toshio in a number of hilariously dodgy moments, from Toshio in the mat well of a car, to a prop wig attacking a makeup artist.
The story is dull and plods along, the non-linear structure over complicates proceedings, the CGI is dire and every aspect which made the original so terrifying is over used to the point where you won’t even care anymore.
OVERALL SUMMARY
I can’t quite understand how the film turned out to be as bad as it did, but it was boring and ridiculous. The only good thing this has going for it is a few scenes which don’t try to be scary, yet are. These moments are akin to those found in the Halloween series where Michael Myers appears from nowhere. These are however, few and far between.
