Warwick Davis is back as the evil Leprechaun in the sixth film in the franchise no-one expected to last so long, and it’s better than some of the previous entries but not as good as his first time in The Hood.
The film starts out with a nifty little animation and homage to Jason Goes to Hell, as scary granite hands drag the little Lep back into the earth before we meet Emily, a young girl who dreams of making it out of The Hood. Emily and her friend Lisa go to a fortune teller who informs them that they will find riches beyond their wildest dreams and that they must turn them down. Not long after, they discover the Lep’s chest of gold and the little green devil is out for blood.
The film looks like it had a decent enough budget, so they try some new stuff here and it works for the most part. The Leprechaun films have always been more about humour than horror and this film has not only the highlight of the series for me, but of any film I think I’ve seen since Woo as a rather large female customer at the Salon where Emily works informs her that her new perm makes her look like “raggedy f*ckin Anne”.
There’s a decent amount of gore here and a couple of likeable characters, so if you’ve enjoyed the previous sequels you should find this one equally amusing.
OVERALL SUMMARY
I’m not a huge fan of the Leprechaun series but the more recent entries have actually been very funny in places. If you’re in a silly mood, you should find a few giggles in this.
