    Secret Window (2004)

By Phil Davies Brown on November 7, 2004 Reviews

Based on the short story Secret Window, Secret Garden by Stephen King, this Johnny Depp vehicle turned out to be far weirder than I could ever imagine and whilst it was certainly enjoyable, the odd nature of the film got too crazy for me, taking it down from four star material to three.

Johnny Depp plays Mort Rainey, a writer who is struggling to find motivation after seperating from his wife. One day Mort receives a visit from a man who claims that he has stolen one of his stories and that’s when things go from weird to weirdest.

I never really saw what the big deal was with Johnny Depp until I saw him here, as he did play the part excellently and indeed had great support from a solid supporting cast.

The film is well photographed and has some wonderful locations as well as an excellent score from Philip Glass, that all help to make the film stronger, but it was inevitably far different to what I was expecting.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
Whilst I enjoyed Secret Window, it was very different to what I was expecting and it did drag slightly towards the end, which subsequently left me in two minds as to how good I actually thought it was.
