In ancient Native American mythology, it is said that there are people in our society called Skinwalkers, who are actually werewolves disguised as humans. Many Skinwalkers want the curse to end, becoming fully human whilst others want to be free of their human personas and roam the earth as beasts. Those who want the curse to end have been hiding a young boy in a sleepy backwoods town for almost 13 years. If he makes it to midnight on his 13th birthday the curse will end. All looks as though it will go to plan, until Varek and his gang turn up in town intent on killing the child.
Poor Jim Isaac can’t cut a break. He’s worked in a number of roles on many classic movies such as Return of the Jedi, Gremlins and The Fly, yet none of his horror movies seem to have been well received by critics or fans, nor have they performed well at the box office. The long delayed Skinwalkers is no exception.
The film has a good concept and a solid cast and crew, but somewhere along the line something just hasn’t gelled as well as it should have, which results in this being an okay film, but not anywhere near as good as it should have been.
Aesthetically, the film looks good thanks to nice locations and autumnal colours, but the CGI is poor and really lets the film down.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Like many recent creature features such as Cursed, Underworld and Blood & Chocolate, Skinwalkers is nothing special and ended up being another poor werewolf movie. I have high hopes for the directors next film Pig Hunt though.
