Echoing ‘The Ring’, this tale of a seemingly possessed elevator is a
remake of a foreign movie which stars Naomi Watts as an investigative
journalist.
Unfortunately, Down is nowhere near as good as ‘The Ring’ but it is an entertaining watch nonetheless, with a very impressive cast of character
actors including Dan Hedaya and Michael Ironside.
When the employees of the 102 storey Millennium Building in New York begin to die in a spate of mysterious elevator related deaths, an investigative
journalist and an elevator technician start to get suspicious.
When the technician’s partner and life long friend is killed, they decide to team up in a bid to uncover the truth.
The film is highly aesthetically pleasing and the cast really help to elevate the material above the norm, but as the film progresses it becomes
a little too far fetched and a little action heavy.
On the plus side there are countless eerie moments, the best involving a blind man and his guide dog, and a little girl who plays peek-a-boo with
the elevator.
OVERALL SUMMARY
A little action heavy and a bit too silly to be taken seriously, but it is
an enjoyable romp nonetheless.
