Voodoo Moon sees Eric Mabius (Reeker) and Charisma Carpenter (Angel) star as brother and sister, Cole and Heather, who are forced to team up with a group of friends in order to fight Lucifer himself.
This film showed a lot of promise thanks to its great cast of likeable and familiar faces, but the filmmakers spent too much time trying to cram big epic visual effects sequences into a small film. By doing this, they failed to focus on the subtleties, and this was the movie’s downfall.
The story is interesting enough but it doesn’t really develop, and the same can be said for the characters. The effects work is quite good but this leads to a number of inconsistencies elsewhere, and even a few bloopers, such as the scene where Charisma Carpenter’s character cuts her finger. We see a wound and blood in the close-up, but her finger is unmarked and bloodless throughout the rest of the scene, even though it features two characters having a heart to heart whilst they tend to the ‘wound’.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Voodoo Moon showed some potential but you need more than flashy effects to make your movie stand out from the crowd. One for Charisma Carpenter fans only I’m afraid.
