Night Screams is a dud slasher movie made in 1987 that features an overabundance of footage from other movies and makes little or no sense, thanks to bad editing.
The film begins with a young nubile girl getting changed, as a heavy breather looks on P.O.V style. You’ll probably assume you’ve already seen this until you realize that it is actually a scene from Graduation Day, hence the deja vu. I hope you enjoyed that movie, as the rest of the tacked on opening kill sequence is essentially 10 minutes of Graduation Day spliced into 2 minutes of new footage for the actual film in question.
The plot (ha-ha) sees a jock throw a party for his teammates and their ‘little ladies’ but what the teens don’t know is…there are two escaped loonies hiding in the basement…but are they the ones bumping off the party guests or is it far more sinister?
This film reeks of the 80’s, bad hair, bad clothes, bad music, dance sequences to rival those in Prom Night and a number of quite gory deaths. Sounds good right? Wrong! So what’s wrong with the film? These elements work well as separate threads but not as a whole. The plot plods along, the deaths are thrown in at random points along the way and the killer’s ID is plainly obvious the entire time.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Night Screams was kind of fun and I’ve definitely seen worse but it was poorly constructed from start to finish. A poor post-production job ruins what little fun there is to be had viewing this.
