    Hostel: Part III (2011)

By Phil Davies Brown on February 15, 2012 Reviews

Eli Roth may have had nothing to do with Hostel Part III and it might have been released straight to DVD and Blu-ray, but I was pleasantly surprised by it.

This time around the action relocates to Vegas as a group of friends on a stag weekend get caught up in the transatlantic dealings of the Elite Hunting group. This time things are a little different however, as the exclusive members watch the deaths through an observation window within a club and place bets on how and when the victims will die.

The film opens well, cleverly playing with our expectations of the series and quickly turns things on its head. This is something which continues throughout to great effect, meaning there are a number of surprises to be had here as nothing is ever really what it seems.

If you can’t get Eli Roth, Scott Spiegel is a fine choice to helm your movie and he handles the material really well. The cast all do solid jobs and I have to commend John Hensley here as I have never liked him in anything, yet he was the most likeable and sincere character in the film.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
Hostel Part III may be the sequel no-one wanted but it got a lot more right than most of the repetitive dross that’s been out so far this year. Whilst it does look and feel like the poorer cousin of the first two films, I give the cast and crew an A for effort!
