This cult hit from Full Moon is still largely unseen but is great.
When two undercover cops arrange to meet a couple of weapons dealers in the warehouse district, they didn’t expect things to go the way they did.
As one of the cops is shot and killed, his partner who coincidentally is also his girlfriend, chases the killers into an old toy factory vowing revenge for the death of her unborn baby’s father.
Once inside things go from bad to worse as a demonic spirit possesses the toys and turns them into his minions.
Scripted by David S. Goyer who would eventually become known for scripting ‘Blade’ amongst other things, Demonic Toys stands out from the other Full Moon films, and indeed films about bad toys, as we were able to care about the characters and it was also very ambitious.
The characters have little screen time particularly Lisa, yet we feel deep sympathy for her.
Baby Oopsie Daisy truly is a ‘Foul mouthed little F*ucker’ to quote Jennifer Tilly, but whilst he is no match for Chucky, he ends up being far more evil and memorable than many similar horror toys and puppets found in the genre.
OVERALL SUMMARY
In the end, the film provides 80 minutes of good old fashioned late 80’s horror fun that was sadly lost as we entered the mid nineties.
