    Final Destination 2 (2003)

By Phil Davies Brown on August 1, 2003 Reviews

The sequel to the surprise horror hit of makes it to video and DVD
this week, but does it live up to the origional or is it all about making
    money?

This time around the film centres on Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook) who has a
premonition whilst waiting to go onto the freeway, that herself, her
friends and the passengers in the cars behind her are all about to die in
a huge pile-up. Despite everyones protests she blocks the road with her
SUV and sure as fate the accident occurs right in front of the stunned
groups faces. Kimberly knows however that something is wrong, and with
the help of the only survivor from the first film(Ali Larter’s Clear
Rivers) the group try to stay one step ahead of death.

This film is awesome!! I cannot remember a sequel being better than it’s
forerunner since ‘Scream ‘ and when I say that, I don’t necessarily mean
that the first films are bad, I just mean that the sequels manage to outdo
them in terms of gory set pieces.

For starters I didn’t think anyone would ever top the origional Final
Destination’s plane crash but boy do they succeed!! The film opens with
one of the best action sequences I have ever seen, and constantly produces
some of the most morbid and gut-wrenching death scenes I have ever
    witnessed.

The cast are all very likeable and really make you care for their
characters. The film is never self referential but rather uses subtle
humour and pop-culture references to achieve it’s laughs (was I the only
one who got the Different Strokes joke?).

Also the film adds new rules to those set up in the first film, which
really worked well for me without ever forcing too much info into my head.
Many critics felt that the ending ruined the film but if you understand
the humour, you’ll think it develishly clever.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
I am so glad that the team behind this film took the time to develop it
properly, as their planning pays off big time, and as a result we are
treated to not only a worthy sequel, but a new entry to the genre hall of
    fame.
