    Scary Movie 2 (2001)

By Phil Davies Brown on August 3, 2003 Reviews

This filmed looked as funny as the first but was it a scream?

In a word NO, this film was made purely for the money and it shows. The
supposed plot sees the survivors from the original (who were all dead by
the end of the movie) spend the weekend taking part in a scientific
experiment at Hell House, which is rumoured to be haunted.

The only strong part of this movie was the opening spoof of the
‘Exorcist’, after that it fell flat on it’s face and failed to generate
many laughs, as the film suffers from a disjointed feeling. The actors
falter as they spoof their way through a range of set pieces that don’t
really have much relation to each other.

The returning characters thankfully include Brenda and Cindy, and Kathleen
Robertson acts as a fitting replacement for Shannon Elizabeth, but sadly
as with a lot of films the cast are sadly underused. The funniest new
character by far has to be Chris Elliott’s Hanson the butler, who has a
few funny scenes with David Cross’s Dwight.

If only the Wayans hadn’t sold out and had taken their time, this could
have been a worthy sequel, however it is basic and underdeveloped. The
DVD does showcase some funny deleted scenes and they seem to explain
certain characters involvement better, which left me wondering why the
funniest scenes were cut out of the film.

    OVERALL SUMMARY
This film is lame and lacks the atmosphere of the first one. Let’s just
hope part is better than this.
