Starting off quite well, this promising tale of a sorority scavenger hunt ruined by a murderous mascot, ended up a lot like it’s victims
did….slashed to pieces!
The girls of Dwight College have huge problems, not only are they ‘all a
bunch of whores’, but someone keeps on slashing them up as they romp
through the local cemeteries, woods and campus buildings during the
aforementioned scavenger hunt.
The characters are all sluts and stereotypes who drift aimlessly in and
out of scenes, never allowing the audience to grasp who is who, as all of
the girls look similar too.
The cast, including ‘Friday the 13th Part 2’ star Lauren Marie Taylor and genre vet Hal Holbrook and son David in his first film role, have nothing
to do and the motive is laughable as well.
I never guessed the killer’s identity and didn’t even know who it was
until 5 minutes into their expected explanation monologue. The ending was
quite creepy and would have payed off much better had the preceeding 70
minutes been as good.
The fact that the movie doesn’t work well however, is probably more likely as a result of the scissor happy censors, who cut endless amounts of
footage out. So drastic was their tampering, that we don’t even know how
people are dying (until we see a close up of serrated claws attached to
the bear costume) and we don’t even see what happens to two of the main
characters right at the end of the movie!
OVERALL SUMMARY
A promising story is hampered by bad editing and those damn censors, which
leaves us with a dull film moving at a dragging pace.
