The only thing available to rent in my video store (that I hadn’t already seen at the cinema) for Halloween, was this dark little effort from
Director Michael Bafaro, which is, if you like, a middle aged version of
‘American Psycho’.
Malcolm McDowell plays the titular character, who goes a little cuckoo in the Alaskan village where he works as a result of S.A.D (seasonal
affective disorder).
The cast are all quite good and their quirky performances help to add a
little something to the proceedings. There isn’t too much bloodshed on
screen as it’s all implied. Instead the film makers have concentrated on
telling a story, which provides the opportunity for some great double
entendres.
A quirky little indie effort, this is a one man show and Malcolm McDowell gives a great performance, remembering to have fun with it too.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Very dark in tone and aesthetics, the film communicates it’s story to the
audience through the thoughts of Malcolm McDowell’s character, which I
can’t recall seeing in a film before. In the end this is a bit like a
black comedy version of ‘Insomnia’.
