Jeff Miller’s film opens memorably with a real phone call from an enraged parent threatening legal action should he proceed to make the movie, which could be held responsible for the death of her daughter who is a cheerleader, should a psycho student see it and decide to use it as his muse.
What follows is strange in that it has the potential elements to really unsettle and indeed shock, considering that it touches upon such real life aspects as paedophilia, rape, male and female homosexuality, violence against women and animal cruelty amongst others.
However the film ends up being a wasted opportunity as it struggles to decide if it wants to be a serious horror movie or a silly ‘Scary Movie’ type spoof.
We are subjected to almost 40 minutes of nothingness as the main character talks on the phone and walks back and forth between her front door and living room.
The only redeeming features here are an excellent appearance from Scream Queen Debbie Rochon and a few moments of light relief courtesy of three stereotypical cheerleaders at a slumber party.
OVERALL SUMMARY
What could have been a great film with thought provoking ideas ends up being boring and silly, yet if you actually question the characters actions and motivations it still seems to work out. I have no doubt that Jeff Miller is capable of making a decent horror movie, however he needs to find the right material and only time will tell if he finds it.
