Judging by the trailer, this didn’t look like it would be anything special, but it was a surprisingly nasty little tale of the civilized becoming the savage.
Steven, Julia and their baby Alex travel to a remote island to visist Julia’s family, but are soon fighting for their lives after an accident has terrifying consequences.
At first I thought that this would be another ‘Deliverance’ type rip-off, but it was surprisingly well written and it’s subject matter was quite shocking.
The cast who were all unfamiliar to me, except Brendan Beiser were really good and at one point I was actually convinced that they truly were loonies and that they were going to kill the baby.
The film was more suggestive than graphic, but it really did manage to fool you into thinking that you had seen more than you actually did.
The only flaw was that the majority of the film took place in dark weather or at night, so it was really hard to see what was happening, and at one point the film was actually shot in night vision which made it look really amateur.
This film would have benefitted from some lighting and better editing, but apart from that it was a nice little homage to ‘The Hills Have Eyes’.
OVERALL SUMMARY
A nice little effort from all concerned. The film may be lacking technically, but it has a good story and a good cast who manage to suck you in.
